REBNY Brooklyn Commercial Committee Hosts Gowanus Walking Tour & Happy Hour at 395 Carroll Street

Event Recap
On September 30, the REBNY Brooklyn Commercial Committee hosted a walking tour and happy hour at 395 Carroll Street in Gowanus. This was the first program under new Co-Chairs Nate Mallon (Verada) and Fritz Richter (Avison Young), marking a strong start to the committee’s next chapter of Brooklyn engagement.
Committee members and guests toured the property and surrounding development corridor, discussing how rezoning continues to reshape the neighborhood’s character and investment potential. The event concluded with a networking happy hour sponsored by Verada and Avison Young.
Special thanks to Brendan Thrapp, Co-Founder of Verada, for his help coordinating and executing the event.
Gowanus: A Neighborhood in Transition
The Gowanus rezoning has unlocked more than 8,000 new apartments and 650,000 square feet of commercial, retail, and storefront space, including over 100,000 square feet of required “Gowanus Mix” maker space.
395 Carroll Street is a prime example of the rezoning’s vision — a project that combines residential density, creative office use, and activated ground-floor retail to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving Brooklyn market. As new development continues along the canal, the neighborhood is emerging as a model for mixed-use, walkable, and community-driven urban growth.
